The Most Popular Pool Games You Can Play Online for Free
8-ball Pool: Most commonly played pool game in the United States. The goal is to claim a suit and pocket all of the followed by the black 8 ball. Most pool games are based on this variation. Popular games include 8 Ball Billiards and Pool Club.
Pool is a classification of cue sports and can be also referred to as pocket billiards. Pool is played on a table with six pockets into which balls can be deposited. There are multiple pool games each with their own specific rule set.
Toss ping pong balls (get them in bulk here) throughout the pool and have everyone playing stand outside of the pool. When the ping pong balls have been dispersed throughout the pool, say go and everyone has to jump into the pool to start the game.
Setup an obstacle course in the pool that kids have to race through. Time how long it takes to get through the obstacle (if you want some sort of competition) or simply let kids go through it for fun.
The person who is it picks a category such as colors. Everyone in the pool has to think of a color in their head and keep that color for the entire game (e.g., red.). The person who is it yells out a color while still facing away from the pool and if someone has chosen that color, they have to swim to the other side of the pool before the person who is it can jump in and tag them.
If the it person turns around and no one is actually swimming (a false splash/sound), the person who is it has to take a step forward away from the edge of the pool, making it tougher for them to catch the swimmers.
Everyone on the side of the pool watches to see where the tee floats to the surface. As soon as they spot the tee, they can dive/jump into the water (depending on the depth) and go try and get the tee. Person who gets the tee scores a point and is the one who places it on the bottom of the pool for the next round.
Or forget the cornhole game and see who can toss rubber duckies or other floating pool toys into hula hoops or pool noodles taped up into rings. And bonus, use them for the human ring toss game right after!

Five hundred is one of my favorite outdoor games, or at least one that my family used to play all the time growing up. The water version is even more fun because making a diving catch in the water is a lot more fun than on the ground.
Have the game in the middle of the pool and have one player from the team have to swim to the pong, make a shot in a cup, then swim back once they do and tag the next teammate. First team to fill all of the cups wins.
Player has to toss rings at a player from their team in the pool and get it around them. Once they make a ring, that player goes into the pool and becomes the human target, the previous target goes to the back of the line, and the next person starts tossing rings at their teammate.
Similar to the game Double Dare on Nickelodeon, have one player on the team stand by each of the obstacles in the pool. When you say go, the first person has to complete their obstacle then tag the teammate standing at the next obstacle. Keep going until the first team gets through all the obstacles.

Best for older kids and is a classic game, this is ideal after the Frozen Tee Race! Teams line up on one side of the pool. They put on a large soaking wet T-shirt and swim to the other side of the pool and back. They then take off the shirt and hand it to the next player who must put it on and swim. (This is a LOT harder than it sounds). Keep the relay going until one team wins.

Deborah Linder, head of the Tufts Obesity Clinic for Animals, adds that a baby pool can be a great alternative for smaller pets. Whenever possible, she suggests letting your dog play in shallow water, as it involves less risk.

Even kids who are not proficient swimmers can enjoy this entertaining pool game, as long as they have appropriate supervision and swim safety gear. Put two floaties in the pool and send kids across the water. They can paddle and kick as they attempt to make it to the other end of the pool first!
The Floor is Lava is a popular game to play indoors or on outside ground, but you can put a new spin on the game by taking the concept to the water with Water is Lava. You won't be trying to stay dry, but instead, the task is to keep a balloon from getting wet. Have kids make a circle or spread out in an area of the pool where they can touch the bottom. Using a balloon (or with older kids a rubber ball), and bat the balloon or ball back and forth, never allowing it to touch the water.
Once kids have learned basic swim skills and can safely get to the bottom of the pool and back to the surface easily, play diving for treasure. Throw items that sink to the pool's floor. You can put items in shallow parts if kids are just learning to dive beneath the surface and pop back up, or you can toss them in deeper waters if your young kids can handle that level of difficulty. Kids will love the task of reaching the pool's floor and hauling up coins, gems, and various dive toys that you use to play this game.
Fill a clear bottle with water, and sink it to the bottom of the pool. Have the teens jump in and search for the elusive bottle. While this seems fairly simple for savvy teens, the bottle will be virtually invisible underneath the water's surface, and quite challenging to find.
To play Sharks and Minnows, you need to choose one player to be the game's shark. The shark swims to the middle of the pool, and the minnows (the rest of the players) gather at one end of the pool. The shark says go, and the minnows begin swimming from one end of the pool to the other. If the shark tags a minnow, they are out of the game. You can also choose to have the tagged minnows become sharks and join in the tagging fun.
Toss all of the balls into the pool. Teams have to hop in and retrieve the balls one at a time. Once all the balls have been recovered from the pool, teams add up the numbers on their balls, and the team with the highest score wins.
Obstacles courses are fun challenges for large groups of kids. Set one up in the pool. Use floats and pool noodles to jump on. Use ping pong balls and buckets or basketball hoops, and work in a few course components that challenge kids to sink the ball in a bucket or basket before moving on. Toss a few coins to the bottom of the pool and see who has the diving skills to race to the bottom and pop up first. Kids will have a blast taking turns getting through all the course challenges, and seeing who makes it to the finish line the fastest.
To make this game more challenging, allow players to get out of the pool. If players hop out and the person yelling "Marco" says "fish out of water," then the person who is out of the pool is automatically out.
Swimming offers people so many health benefits. You don't have to get in the pool and bust out some laps to reap the many perks that being in the water provides. Swimming and splashing around gives kids an entire body workout and provides them with adequate daily exercise. This activity is also great on a human's cardiovascular system. Swimming can also do wonders for those who struggle with mood issues, and has been shown to improve stress levels in some research groups. Regardless of which swimming pool game you choose to try out, know that any of these options will provide your family with exercise and fun all summer long. And you can share the fun with these entertaining pool quotes.
Like the basketball game H.O.R.S.E., players must follow the leader and complete swim tasks like doing a cannonball, swimming across the pool, or doing a headstand. If a player cannot complete the task, he or she earns a letter. When a player earns enough letters to spell F.I.S.H, he or she is out. The last player swimming is the new leader. The more players, the better, but F.I.S.H can be played with two players.
